hand grips for bodybuilding.?

Last year I bought a pair of medium level hand grips and they got too easy so i bought level 3 lately and I can move them but they just workout my hand and not my forearm or wrist and ive afraid they could give you arthritus or somthing in later life. Am I wasting my time and effort with hand grips?

Buy a better gripper. Yes, you’re wasting time with the ones you get at a sporting goods store, and no, they won’t give you arthritis. They’ll actually prevent it.

The grippers you get at the store come in three different sizes usually, easy (25 lbs of resistance), medium (30 lbs of resistance, the standard), and hard (40 lbs of resistance), with the toughest maybe offering 50 lbs of resistance. Go online to Ironmind’s website. Even the easiest one they sell is a lot tougher than a regular gripper. Here’s the sizes they offer.

Guide – 60 lbs
Sport – 80 lbs
Trainer – 100 lbs
No. 1 – 140 lbs
No. 2 – 195 lbs
No. 3 – 280 lbs
No. 4 – 365 lbs

Train with it the same way you would weights, do only small sets with what you can only do a few reps with, but put a ton of effort into it. These are expensive, but they’ll last a lifetime if you take care of them. If you don’t know what kinds to get, use this as a guide.

If you’ve done little or no grip training, get the guide, sport, trainer, and number 1. If you’ve done a lot of grip training, get the trainer, number 1, and number 2. If you have an out of this world grip, get the number 1, number 2, number 3, and number 4.

From what you told me, I’d reccomend getting the Trainer and Number 1 to start out with. The average man can squeeze between 95 lbs and 115 lbs of pressure, so you should likely be able to close the Trainer and work on the Number 1 over time. Get more grippers as they’re needed.
