How do I get hold of a Marin “RFE Carbon” fork (I prefer Marin sellers or anybody else to answer this)?

I ride a Marin Novato and would like to get hold of a “RFE Carbon” fork that is found on a similar looking but higher spec Point Reyes (http://www.marin.co.uk/2009/bikedetail.php?ModNo=3917-1F) as I noticed that they have a low frontal height to the former’s

I asked a LBS recently that stocks Marins and they asked I couldn’t as they only come with the bike itself, even though a classified I seen recently, one guy advertised his Novato with that fork (ad: http://www.londonfgss.com/thread10130.html)

Also what is the advantage and disadvantage to these compared to the standard alloy found on Novatos, how much are they likely to cost…and how do they compare to any other carbon forks (such as White Brothers, Mosso, Trigon)

Marin carbon forks are made by a company called AP in Taiwan and Boan in China. They are branded Marin only for use on Marin OEM bikes. This means that they are not available aftermarket.

Although I am “forced” to spec carbon forks on some bikes I design, there is no benefit for 90% of riders out there. The thought that they are more comfortable is a fallacy until you get to very high end bikes when the fork and frame are engineered together as a single unit.

Don’t buy a carbon for just because it is the cool thing to do or that it is “lighter”. It will not make you faster and it will not save you enough weight to affect performance.
